Looking Out From the Garage: Who Cares?!?

Who Cares?!?

I have to say that I am deeply peeved.

The country is in the worst financial crisis since the one caused by Jimmy Carter.  Congress has not only been asleep at the switch for a decade, but they have actively roadblocked meaningful reforms and investigations into WHY we have the problems we face.

There are Wall Street Executives, Members of Congress, Staffers and Lobbyists that should ALL be taking perp walks.  Governors have been nailed with accusations of Pay-for-Play (not just Blago, but also Richardson).  Cabinet Members and Nominees have failed to pay taxes and found other great ways to avoid doing the things the rest of us are required to do...

So, what is going on?

Instead of the people that we sent to Washington dealing with serious business... the business of running our country, they are pre-occupied with steroids...  STEROIDS...  FRIGGIN' STEROIDS!

With everything else that is going on in the country, there is NO reason that ANYONE in Washington, DC should give a rat's butt who did or did not take steroids in order to hit a baseball.  There is NO reason that they should care who did or did not hear a conversation about someone else taking steroids.  Taking steroids without a bona-fide medical need is a MISDEMEANOR at most.  It isn't National Security.  It isn't the bankrupting of a nation.  It isn't the future of our children.  It is some baseball players making their balls shrink.  It is a STATE crime... and the states don't have time to deal with it...

Why?

Why should Congress waste the time and money of the American Taxpayer on baseball?  Let MLB waste their time and money.  Sure, in the face of the $1trillion spending package in front of them right now, the money wastage potential is tiny, In fact, the only reason to let the Congress Critters play their little game is that it could divert their attention from screwing up something important...

Lane,

What if this si an imitation of activity? Doesn;t ,atter what we do, as long as we are occupied? Or it is a clever plot to fool themselves?

Our lawmakers spend entirely too much time focusing on non-essential laws and problems. Maybe it's easier for them to waste time, energy and money on unimportant issues than it would be to tackle the real problems.

Lane - it is a distraction,  the misdirection that takes the eyes of the audience off of the slight of hand, or, in this case, the stimulus costulus package that is being debated and about to put futures generations under onerous debt and to social engineer the U.S. into facism.

Lane - Simply put, I agree totally.  That's a MLB issue and not a Government one.  As if we don't have enough to be concerned about...

One more meaningless idea out of our Congress. These folks are complete fools.

One of the reasons that congress feels that they are able to interfere in baseball is because of the anit trust exemption that it enjoys. But again, it is just a smoke screen.

Lane - agreed. Then again, maybe the covernment is concerned about shrinking balls??? Just saying. ~Rita

Lane,

Congress actually does have oversight into baseball - by their own design, and they seem to take pleasure in exercising that one small fraction of their jobs. :)

Jon - It is a distraction.  If they bluster about crap that doesn't matter, then maybe nobody will notice that they are silent when they needed to make noise.

Maria - It is doubtful that anyone will lose an election over steroids... but the wrong position on real issues COULD get them into hot water.  So, they are quiet about those things and grandstand about BS.

Mike - Yes.

Jason - But then they would have to do something real with that timeslot.

Kevin - Are we out of fingers and toes yet... for counting the stupid ideas...?

Mike - And why is that the MLB has an anti-trust exemption?  The NHL doesn't.  NFL?  NBA?  Nope...

Rita - Ok, that was funny...

Steve - Drop the oversight, drop the special treatment for MLB.  Run the country...
