Today, I passed a milestone of which I'm pretty proud. Yesterday, I made my 250th post... but there is something else that is more important in my blogging world here on A/R... and I have never seen this number mentioned... so, I will mention it.
2000
I have made over 2000 comments. Frankly, I haven't noticed whether this counts the comments I've made on my own blog, answering those that have blessed me with a comment, but I try to combine and minimize those. And, frankly, I'm not one of those bloggers here that gets 84 comments every time I post, so I don't have to answer as much as Jessica Horton, or Bryant Tutas. (I just looked, and I average around 5.6 incoming comments/post)
The point is that I pride myself in trying hard to read lots of blogs (here and elsewhere), and commenting as much as I can. I'll admit that the points help, but I don't get any points for Bloodhound Blog comments, or Jay Thompson's Phoenix Real Estate Blog... or Gotta Be Mobile... or Seth's Blog... you get the idea. There are a lot of great voices out there, and there is plenty to learn, and I for one know that I have a LOT more to learn than I have to teach.
Another great benefit of commenting on other people's posts is that it is what creates community. How many of us have outside blogs that hardly ever get a comment? I know that I do. If it weren't for the emails and phone calls, I'd almost think I was sitting around talking to myself. But, A/R is different.
So, take a few moments, and make a meaningful comment on someone's blog. Get the points (consider them a nice bonus), but make sure that you aren't just tossing in a "Great Post" for the points sake. Read great blogs, and make great comments.
The pictures are just gratuitous shots, and the video as well... But, they are fun...

Lane - Please count yourself among the great voices out there. I read a lot of blogs, but don't always comment and you have inspired me to be a better comment maker in 2008!
Merry Christmas!

2000 cimments is certainly a milestone. Sounds like you are really addicted like some of us I know. Merry Christmas to you and your family
Don
First, I hope everyone watches the video... It is a hoot. Please note the co-driver at 5:00 hugging the belts. He thinks they are going to roll... then he is reading the route instructions again in about 2 seconds... Also, after about 7:30, there are lots of great drifting shots. And this isn't drifting for style, this is all about the speed. You have to admire the control to just slide it around with that kind of purpose.
Nannette - I love the community here as well.
Matt - I think that deciding to be a more prolific commentor has made me a better blogger... I read a lot more, and get more inspiration.
Sean & Pilar - I am VERY opinionated, but that isn't where the comments come from.
Donald - Merry Christmas to you and yours as well. Thanks.
Lane,
Congrats on 2000! I just looked I am just over 200. I have a long way to go. I am fairly new to the blogging world, but I see how it can get addicting. Congrats again and keep commenting.
Wow that is a lot of reading congratulations! reading the blogs here on AR inspire's me also, it's very addicting.
I really don't mind the "great post" comments. I figure the 2 or 3 word comments won't count towards their comment points and yet they still bothered to leave me a "great post" comment anyway. I'd rather that little comment than no comment. Just my opinion.
Happy Holidays!
Todd - I used to be there. I don't look at this so much as a goal, just as a process. Keep on commenting.
Lorina - I've had six months to do the reading within.
Monika - I agree... but then I feel compelled to reply. But, hey, any exposure is good... ok, most any exposure.
Terry - Don't worry about great posts, just good posts. Great posts will just creep out when you least expect it. I know for me I have always been surprised by what got featured... and what didn't.
LOL. Yes, a pretty good number of people read my stuff and comment. I read you. That should say something! =]
It is my understanding that certain people take issue with how I reply individually to each comment. Well, they can kiss my foot (I'm being nice tonight). If another poster takes time out of their schedule to comment on one of my posts...I do now and I will continue to reply to each individual poster. Plus, it works well with my system.
Of course, I've picked up a pretty good chunk of business by doing this. And speaking of busines picked up off AR...I just listed a house that you might be able to help me sell! It is a home built around the garages! Yes, the business came from AR and it would be awesome if another AR member could help me sell it. I will post later about it.
Keep up the great work! I enjoy your posts. I don't always understand what you are talking about...but I enjoy them and will always show your blog some love. Thanks for being such a great guy!
Great post.
Just kidding! I find myself often giving just as much thought to my comments as I do my posts. In fact there have been a few posts of my which started as a comment but when it hit 500 words or so I thought it (a) rude to leave that long of a comment and (b) great opportunity to do my own blog since I already did the work. Duh.
Jessica - Grab your Jason, put him in front of the computer... play the video. you can dance around to MC Hammer and Quiet Riot behind him... you don't need to understand.
Ken - That has happened to me a few times... and then I've dropped some comment bombs on people, too. I have a couple out there that must look scary or something.
Great milestone. I love the videos . THe rally guys are nuts, as are some of the spectators. I would like to drive down to road Atlanta and watch some of the racing next year, Maybe I can stop by and say hello.
Have a merry Christmas
Larry - Road A is a great venue. I do miss the old Turn 11 complex... it was seriously bad a**. Don Panoz had it reconfigured to make it a bit safer, but it lacks the excitement of before. Imagine cresting a hill while getting a bit sideways, knowing that the braking zone is just over the crest...
Frank - Thanks.
