This hasn't been an easy game to play...
Granted, I have had a pretty busy week and haven't been able to spend as much time as I wanted to get this deployed. But, the simple fact is that it hasn't gone smoothly.
There are three basic components to the package...
- WordPress MU, the multi-user version of WordPress
- BuddyPress, the social component. It is actually a collection of plug-ins and modifications, but functions as a version.
- bbPress, the forum component. It works with WPMU or regular WP, as well as BuddyPress.
WPMU installed fine. BuddyPress hasn't been as smooth... but not terrible. There have been a few little things that have popped up. bbPress has been a real PITA. Basically, the integration between BuddyPress and bbPress is pretty tough. And without the integration, it is not really different than anything else out there.
I'm hoping to be able to spend a little more time on it this week, but this is a busy week, too.
If you've played this game and won... let me know. I'd love a little more direction. The one hint I can certainly pass along is that one needs to avoid using SimpleScripts or Fantastico to install BuddyPress. Apparently there are some issues with their install package. It needs to be installed the old fashioned way, upload through FTP and unzip.
