Looking Out From the Garage

What Technology is absolutely imperative?

Garrett at Gail's deskI'm (still) in the midst of writing my technology plan.  Of course, the options are daunting and plentiful.  I have adopted some technologies, but even those are going to require me to get real training to fully implement.  Keep in mind that I work primarily from home, and only visit my office occasionally to pick stuff up or drop things off.  Luckily, it's only 5 miles from the house.

So, what do I currently have:

  • Tablet/laptop computer with wi-fi capability
  • PDA/phone/ekey (running Windows Mobile 5)
  • Wi-fi network in the house
  • DSL
  • Laser B/W printer with fax and scan capability
  • I have two blog platforms (Active Rain and Blogger), with a third possibility (the new websites content management is similar to a blog platform, and there are blog plug-ins under development)
  • Real estate forum with a lot of niche-focus bonus info

Of course, there are other things, such as both of the local MLSs offer all of the contract documents in pdf.  I am a member of both MLSs.

What am I looking to improve:

  • I know that this tablet computer is capable of a lot more than I am wringing out of it.  Currently it is a glorified laptop that I can swivel the screen on.  I have ordered MS OneNote which (if I fully implement) will allow me to get one step closer to paperless.
  • I know that my phone has a lot more capability than I am using.  I have started to use more of the PDA functions, but still I am barely scratching the surface.
  • ATablet PCdding Bluetooth to my computer to auto-sync with the phone rather than using the USB would be great.  I don't sync them nearly enough... and I only think about it when I am out somewhere and a note I had on the computer would have helped.  If I am able to find a way to implement the notes from OneNote into the phone, I could REALLY have all of my info at my fingertips.
  • I would like to find a document signing solution for the electronic documents the MLS offers.  I wouldn't mind downloading a complete set to have on the system, and then use the tablet feature to capture signatures.  I am very over paper...
  • I wouldlike to implement better capture technologies for website and blog visitors.  There is a login feature on the new site that I haven't rolled out.  I can even give authoring privileges to select users to allow them to post articles.
  • SEO for both website and blog.
  • Add podcasting and/or videoblog/videopodcasting capability to my blog and website.
  • I think I want to add Eureka to my Outlook to give capability similar to Top Producer.

Finally, I would like to increase the hit counts for my website and blog.  I know that isn't strictly technology, but it is related.

What am I missing?  What am I too focused on?
