Central Connecticut State University recently completed a national study on the literacy of major cities.
The report scored cities of 250,000 people or more against several indicators, including education level, Internet use, newspaper circulation, number of booksellers, library services and local publications.

Atlanta finished 5th in the survey, behind Seattle, Washington DC, Minneapolis and Pittsburgh. It finished ahead of Portland (OR), St. Paul, Boston, Cincinnati and Denver. A few of those cities I expected to see in the top ten, but others were a little surprising.
One correlation that the study finds is that cities that do well with literacy are also better for singles. The cultural opportunities that are prevalent in cities with a higher literacy rate also tend to bring a better quality of life... and a better "singles scene".
Atlanta, Boston, Seattle and Washington also made the Top 10 cities for singles in addition to literacy.
I've been in Atlanta for 20 years. This is a great area to live. While I haven't spent much time being single in Atlanta, I can speak to the wide variety of cultural and recreational opportunities.
