Two years ago this week, I posted up my predictions for the next year.  That year would be 2009.  I got a few right, and got a few wrong.  I was just looking back and I was surprised by them... some were pretty bold.

Here is the original post...

Here is a quick rundown of how I did...

  1. Right
  2. Rightish
  3. Hit that one
  4. Kind of right...
  5. Not so good on that one
  6. That one was good
  7. Nailed that one
  8. Not so much
  9. Got that one pretty right
  10. Hit that one out of the park...

On my "bonus predictions"...

  • Red Wings, yes.  Bruins, no.
  • Islanders, yes.  Thrashers... pretty close.
  • Chrysler... bought by Fiat.
  • Saturn, closed.  Hummer, sold.
  • Toyota had a loss for the year.
  • How's that Global Warming working out?

How well are my predictions doing?

While wandering through some old posts I ran across one of my prediction posts.

Lane's Top Ten Underdogs for 2009

It was interesting to look over.  And I thought it might be fun to take a look at how I am doing on it so far...

10.  GM still needs a cheerleader... and maybe a good bankruptcy judge.  Despite them putting a couple of brands high up in the JD Power quality rankings... including Buick at the TOP, they are seen as junky compared to some foreign nameplates.  I think they are going to end up the year in bankruptcy.

9.   Chrysler probably won't end the year as an independent company... and I actually don't think that is a good thing.  Of course there are a few companies that could use the styling folks from Chrysler, but it will be sad if they end up as a unit of Fiat.

8.   Detroit is still on the losing end of a hockey fight in the real estate market... and they still need the rest of the team to clear the bench to help them out.

7.   I don't think the Mainstream Media knows yet... but they are getting their butts kicked.  Newspapers are losing the battle, and even TV news is taking a lot of the beating.

6.   I think that President Obama wakes up in the morning tryingt o think of new ways to destroy wealth... and destroy the wealthy.  Maybe one day the Democrats will figure out that they get EVERYTHING from people with money... like jobs, tax money and al of the groovy technology they like.  Destroy the rich and everybody goes hungry.  They are moving up on the Underdog List.

5.   Despite Al Gore's hot air, Global Warming isn't working out... but it's hard to call them underdogs when they have the MSM and populism going for them... even though the facts are starting to look pretty inconvenient.

4.   How can the GOP be underdogs?  They have a Democrat President that is doing everything they could want to give them populist support.  They have all of the ingredients to make a beautiful cake... and they can only manage glue.  Maybe they will get it together and be the party of Lincoln again.

3.   Real Estate might be coming back...  I have seen the story start to shift on the news.  We might be looking at the bottom of the market... might.  Maybe.

2.   Boy, if the stock market was bad before...  It is up a little today, but the Obama Administration has done for the stock market what sugar does to fuel injectors.  The market is still a giant underdog.  Of course, until the rich aren't villianized, it will continue to be unloved.

1.   Corporations...  Just Damn.  If anyone deserved underdog status... and deserved to get abuse... it would be the financial sector.  Big corps in general are still taking it on the chin.  I want to sit in the stands and cheer for them, but it is tough... and they are making it tougher every day.

So, what do you think?
