I wish I didn't see this happening, but unfortunatley, I see it all too much. Let me set it up for you...
Some members, in their cheap ploy to get their comment points for the day follow a routine:
- Go to the New Members Today link on the front page of A|R.
- As they scroll through the list, they click on all of the ones that post a blog.
- They write a comment that looks supportive of the member writing their first blog post.
- They copy that comment.
- They move to the next new blogger.
- They paste that same comment.
- Repeat the last two steps until they have the day's comment points.
Please note that...
- Read the post
is not included in the routine. Looking for an example? Try this one...
It is embarrassing. It reflects poorly on the entire community. When I go out into "the rest of the blog world" and see things said about A|R that are less than complimentary, on top of the list is the worthless commenting for points. And now I am seeing it on Localism. It came from A|R. The comments aren't enabled yet directly through Localism.
Unacceptable is the only word that comes to mind. Ok, it isn't the only word, but the only one I can use in a family friendly format.
This problem affects EVERY one of us on A|R. It reflects poorly on EVERY one of us. And it really needs a solution. And the solution needs to go past just getting your worthless comment deleted and toward losing serious points... Like maybe a thousand... Wipe out the comment points for a month for a serial offender.
And this may be the last time I don't just post up the offending name and info...
